Chapter 4 · 4.5
Inserting and formatting tables
A table lets you organise data neatly in rows and columns, such as the prices in a quote.
Inserting a table
- Place the cursor where the table should go.
- Go to the Insert tab and click Table (1).
- Move the mouse over the grid until you have the right number of columns and rows, then click. Need more than the grid offers? Choose Insert custom table and type the number.

Press Tab to move to the next cell. If you're in the last cell, Tab adds a new row.
Formatting the table
Click inside the table. The Table settings panel appears on the right; if you don't see it, click the table icon on the right (1). Here you can choose:
- a template with colours, for example with a coloured header row and striped rows;
- which rows and columns stand out: the header row, the total row, the first or last column;
- the borders: style, thickness and colour;
- the background colour of the selected cells;
- the height of rows and the width of columns.

Adding or removing rows and columns
Right-click in a cell. Choose Insert to add a row above or below, or a column to the left or right. Use Delete / Remove to remove a row, column or the whole table. Use Merge cells to combine several cells into one.
Tip: does the header row of a long table need to appear on every page? In the table settings, tick Repeat as header row at the top of each page.
